Ayano Shioya draws on her background as an architect to create these intricate ceramic sculptures for her first US show exclusively for Heath. Each piece is inspired by her favorite hiding spots—or Secret Bases—from her childhood. As she makes each piece she imagines the people and animals that would call each piece home, creating not only a sculpture, but an entire world in the process. Each piece is made by hand and finished to create visually and texturally complex surfaces that are striking to see and touch.
